5 Tips for a Healthy Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is a holiday of love and happiness. Many people celebrate by taking their loved one out for a nice meal then end the evening with a box of chocolates and a glass of wine. While these traditions are fun, they might not be so fun for your body. Eating at a restaurant, drinking alcohol and eating sweets adds up to a lot of extra fat and sugar but there are some ways you can have a healthier Valentine’s Day.  Here are a few tips and ideas to help keep your special day fun without sacrificing your health and fitness!

Have Dinner at Home

Cooking a meal for your loved one is always a great way to show them just how much they mean to you. It’s a known fact that restaurants increase the salt and butter content of their dishes but by cooking at home you can control exactly how much of each ingredient you include in the meal. Not only is this a healthier option, but it’ll also make your wallet feel good too!

Skip the Traditional Chocolates

The old cliché box of chocolates doesn’t have to be your go-to anymore! Order a beautiful arrangement of fruit dipped in dark chocolate. Not only are these arrangements a wonderful “Wow!” moment for your partner, but the dark chocolate has also been shown to have heart-healthy benefits.

Have a Spa Day

Who says you have to eat and drink to have an indulgent day? Having a spa day with your partner is a great way to spend this romantic holiday. Book yourselves a couples massage! Many spas offer great packages for couples that include other services as well, like facials and mud treatments.

Give the Gift of Health

If you and your partner are already into health and fitness, think outside the box! You don’t have to stick with the norm of cards, flowers and chocolates. Get them the new running shoes they’ve been eyeing or a new activity tracker! Has your partner hit a wall with their fitness goals? Book them a few sessions with a personal trainer. You could also look for items like Bluetooth headphones, a new yoga mat or a nice gym bag.

Take a Class Together

Taking a fun class together can be a great way to keep your Valentine’s Day fun and exciting. You can look into healthy cooking classes which will include new recipes and great tips to incorporate into your existing recipes. You could also look for a fun dancing class, which will feel a little more intimate than dinner at a restaurant or flowers from the shop down the street. Both of these are great ways to have a fun night with your partner while keeping on track with your healthy lifestyle.
